Oxygen is the Limiting Reagent
The Balance Chemical Equation is as follow,
4 NH₃ + 5 O₂ → 4 NO + 6 H₂O
Finding the Limiting Reagent;
According to Balance equation,
68.12 g (4 mol) NH₃ reacts with = 160 g (5 mol) of O₂
So,
4.0 g of NH₃ will react with = X g of O₂
Solving for X,
X = (4.0 g × 160 g) ÷ 68.12 g
X = 9.40 g of O₂
It means 4.0 g of NH₃ requires 9.40 g of O₂, while we are provided with 8.0 g of O₂ which is limited. Therefore, O₂ is the limiting reagent and will control the yield of products.
