Find the slope and y-intercept of the line that is perpendicular to y = -x-1 and passes through the point (5,7).

Respuesta :

so we have y=-x-1 this is the same as y=-1(x+1) so it has a slope of -1 this means any line perpendicular will have a slope of 1. now we use this with the point and point slope formula.
recall point slope formula is y-y1=m(x-x1) where (x1,y1) is a point and m is the slope so we find
y-7=1(x-5) we can simplify this into y intercept form by solving for y
so
y=x-5+7
y=x+2
so the line perpendicular has a slope of 1 and a y intercept of 2! :)
