The Battle of Chateau-Thierry was fought on July 18, 1918,
during World War I, as part of the Second Battle of Marne. Taken place in a
small village about twenty five miles away from Paris, the battle started when
the German troops located in Chateau-Thierry met a relatively small American
fighting unit that would eventually stop the Germans in crossing the Marne
River and continue on their way to Paris. The American troops fought along the
French, and the allied forces won. The battle is recognized as a major success
of the American Expeditionary Forces, who were now on the front at the time, in
stopping the advance of the German army towards Paris.
