Julia bought 18 apples at the store. She then divided up the apples between her mother, her father, and herself in a ratio of 2:1:3. That means her mother received two parts, her father received one part, and Julia received three parts of all the apples. How many apples did each person receive?

Respuesta :

Add up 2, 1 and 3.  Result:  6.

Mother received 2 parts out of 6, or (2/6)(18) = 6 apples;

Father rec'd 1 part out of 6, or (1/6)(18) = 3 apples, and Julia herself rec'd (3/6)(18), or 9, apples.

Total apples = 18

Ratio = 2:1:3 -->> 2+1+3 = 6

18/6 = 3

so 2 x 3 = 6
     1 x 3 = 3
     3 x 3= 9
