I would first investigate historical accounts of what others in the same position have done in the past to make sure what I plan to do is congruent with societal and cultural expectations. I certainly expect my expedition and volunteering efforts to have broader impact and contribute to the welfare of society. My skills should be in line with those needed for my planned expedition and volunteering activities. Personally, I am interested in protecting endangered marine life and reducing marine pollution. Many of my skills like diving, swimming, etc. cater to the pursuit of these interests.
