Greetings!

[tex] \frac{1}{2}x- \frac{5}{4}y [/tex]
Factor -1/4. How? To factor a polynomial, you divide all the terms by the GCF (The Greatest Common Multiple.)
[tex]=-1/4(\frac{1}{2}x/(-1/4)- \frac{5}{4}y/(-1/4))[/tex]
Simplify.
[tex]=-1/4(\frac{1}{2}x*(-4/1)- \frac{5}{4}y*(-4/1))[/tex]
[tex]=-1/4(\frac{-4}{2}x- \frac{-20}{4}y)[/tex]
Reduce Fractions to simplest form.
[tex]=-1/4(-2x-(-5y))[/tex]
The Factor Polynomial Is:
[tex]=-1/4(-2x+5y)[/tex]

Hope this helps.
