In "Civil Disobedience" philosopher Henry David Thoreau asks his readers to take a step toward and demand and obtain the type of government they want. The author argues that citizens must disobey the rule of law when those laws are unjust. In the essay Thoreau adds that laws are human made, therefore they are fallible and not a divine of God made statement, so in the cases in which the human laws are wrong or unfair, citizens must stand up against them.
Thoreau first published the essay "Civil Disobedience" in 1849 as a way to respond to questions regarding about his arrest. When the Mexican War in 1846 Thoreau who was an abolitionist protested against the government decision and decided to stop paying his taxes as a part of his protest.
