The imperfect tense is used with:
1.) Ongoing actions (actions that have no clear end or beginning)
2.) Something one "used to" do
3.) Weather
4.) Time (but only if you're saying it WAS something o'clock, not AT something o'clock)
5.) Ser or estar, usually (so the "to be" verbs)
6.) "Was" doing or "were" doing something
7.) If you did something an undefined amount of times
