The Cold War was not technically a war. No fighting was involved, however, it lead to lots of tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Both countries basically worked towards building more nuclear weapons than the other. This was a way to prove that if one country fired the weapons, the other could retaliate. The Cold War ended in 1991.
