in the line "Such laughter is worse than a crackling of thorns under a pot for it denotes not merely the vacant Mind but in the heart and which high emotions have been killed before they could grow and fruition the word but shows an opposite relationship between a vacant mind and high emotions so we can conclude that emotions are
A. negative
B. angry
C. indifferent
D. admirable

Respuesta :

I know it may not seem like it, but the answer is D. admirable. I know because I took the test, too.

D. admirable This is the correct option.

The line belongs to Theodore Roosevelt's speech " The man with the muck-rake" given in 1906. Roosevelt is criticising what some journalists have done: to criticise his government, mainly. So, in his opinion , the journalists or people who laugh at the dishonesty of a public man are empty -headed - vacant mind-. If there is nothing in their minds, they will be unable to feel. The fact they are empty headed has stopped these people from developing any good emotion. For Roosevelt truth and love are examples of high emotions. The people he is angry with cannot love or tell the truth.

These options are not right:

A. negative  ( Emotions are  "high". This is a possitive connotation).

B. angry ( Emotions are not angry. Roosevelt is angry).

C. indifferent ( Roosvelt thinks the opposite).
