Andrew Jackson was popular because he was a "self-made man". This means that he had to actually work his way up to become president. No, (for me at least) I do not think he would be popular.
Jackson was not a populist but he was a man of the people. He lead troops into victory during the war of 1812 and he climbed his way up the socioeconomic ladder. He wasn't exactly self made in the way we think today. His status and money were non existent until he married the daughter of a prominent rich man.
The real reason he was popular was because he listened to the everyday farmer. Once a month he'd allow anyone into the white house to discuss any matter they thought was important. The term Jacksonian Democracy is in reference to how loyal he was to serving the people of the USA.
