Mr rivers bought a can of paint. He used 3 / 8 of it to paint a shelf. He used 1/4 to paint a wagon. He used some to paint a birdhouse. He has 1/8 of the paint left. How much paint did he use for the birdhouse?

3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8 

8/8 - 1/8 = 7/8 

7/8 - 5/8 = 2/8 = 1/4

he used 1/4 to paint the bird house.
