The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is a united states government agency that regulates voice and data communication.
The independent Federal regulatory body known as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) answers directly to Congress. It was created by the Communications Act of 1934 and is in responsible of policing domestic and international radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable communications.
Except when filling an open position, the FCC is governed by five commissioners who are chosen by the President and confirmed by the Senate for periods of five years. One commissioner is chosen by the President to serve as chairman. The Chairman assigns the Managing Director the duties of management and administration as the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission. Other duties are assigned to staff divisions, bureaus, and commissioner committees. Regular open and closed agenda sessions as well as extraordinary meetings are held by the commissioners. They may also take action in between sessions through a process called "circulation," in which a document is sent to each commissioner separately for review and formal action. The District of Columbia, all 50 states, and American possessions fall under its purview.
