A study by police one magazine found that the most commonly used less-than-lethal weapon is a taser.
A taser is an electroshock weapon that is used to render a person unconscious so that they can be approached and handled in a safe way without their objecting. Axon, previously TASER International, sells it. At a speed of 55 m/s (120 mph; 200 km/h), it launches two tiny barbed darts that are meant to pierce the skin and stay attached to the target.
For non-Law Enforcement Tasers, the range is 4.5 meters (15 feet), whereas for LE Tasers, it is 10.5 meters (34 feet). The darts deliver a modulated electric current intended to impair muscle voluntary control, leading to "neuromuscular incapacitation," and are connected to the main unit by a tiny piece of insulated copper wire.
Since there is a chance of significant damage or death everytime a taser is used, the weapon is touted as being less harmful.
