Nurse should provide the instruction - Close lips tightly around the mouthpiece and breathe in deeply and quickly.

How to use a dry powder inhaler?

Open - When the inhaler is removed from the box, it is 'closed'. To open, hold the outer case with one hand and place the thumb of the other hand on the handle. Push your thumb as far away from you as you can.

Slide - Hold  inhaler with  mouthpiece facing you. Slide the lever away from you  until you hear and/or feel a click. The inhaler is now ready to use.

Inhalation -

  • Hold the inhaler away from your mouth. Exhale as far as possible. Bring the mouthpiece to your lips. Inhale steadily and deeply - with your inhaler, not through your nose.
  • Remove the inhaler from your mouth.
  • Hold your breath for about ten seconds, or  as long as you feel comfortable.
  • Exhale slowly.
  • Check the dose indicator - The dose indicator on the top of the vial tells you how many doses are left.

Closing - To close the inhaler, place your thumb on the handle and slide the handle towards you as far as possible. When you close the inhaler, it snaps into place. The lever automatically returns to its original position and is reset. Now it is  ready to use again.
