What is Emic and Etic concepts?

A research strategy known as an emic concept includes examining behaviour in a single culture. The etic method, on the other hand, looks for universal behaviours and/or universal justifications for behaviour.  In anthropology, the term "emic" refers to a method of examining a culture from within, with an emphasis on its internal components. Similar to this, the term "emic perspective" refers to the viewpoint of a member of the culture, also referred to as an insider's perspective.

Etic concepts: An explanation that uses comparisons to other cultures and discussion of human behaviour universals to explain a culture in terms of science. When analyzing the potential biases that each perspective may introduce, the contrast between etic and emic perspectives is particularly crucial. For instance, by extrapolating from observations made in one culture and transferring them to another, an etic-only study may contain biases.

Hence, Concepts like amae and yuan might be Emic , whereas concepts like duty and obligations to the group might be Etic .
