Rhabdomyolysis (also known as rhabdo) is a potentially fatal or permanently disabled medical condition. Rhabdo happens when damaged muscle tissue leaks proteins and electrolytes into the bloodstream. These substances can harm the heart and kidneys, resulting in permanent disability or death.
The most common cause of Rhabdomyolysis are crush injury, overexertion, alcohol abuse and certain medicines and toxic substances.
The symptoms of Rhabdomyolysis are muscle pain in the shoulder, thighs or lower back. Muscle weakness or trouble moving arms and legs, dark or brown urine or decrease in urination.
