Blood borne transmission is the spread of a disease through contact with blood or other body fluids that have been contaminated with blood.
Among numerous microbes present in our surroundings, some are beneficial for us while others are extremely harmful and deadly. The latter are referred to as pathogenic microbes. Some of the diseases caused by these microbes are pathogenic and spread by contact.
The types of contact that spread these diseases are further divided into many categories like air borne diseases, water borne diseases etc. Similarly, blood borne diseases are spread by contact of infected fluid by the blood of healthy person.
Contact with mucus, blood, pleural fluid etc can transmit these diseases. Examples of blood borne diseases are Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C virus and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
