The causes and consequences of stigma and discrimination in relation to the adoption of children in Ghana are related to the multifactorial stigmas in the country, such as gender stigma, physical disability and poverty, which make families isolated and end up abandoning children with such characteristics.

How do stigmas of children generate social problems?

It is common in Ghana for families who have children with some characteristic considered to be a disability to be isolated and marginalized in society, which generates an increase in emotional suffering, maternal violence and social inequalities.

Therefore, for such stigmas to be excluded from society, there must be a change in social and cultural paradigms through the dissemination of information against child abandonment, social support groups and family support to change society in broader parameters.
