Some of the diseases that were seen in Sikkim in the 19th century included the plague, leprosy, malaria, and cholera.
Much like the rest of India which was under British rule in the 19th century, many Indians in Sikkim were suffering from malnutrition, poor sanitation, and poverty. This led to several diseases being able to spread through the state and wreck havoc on people.
Some of these diseases included the horrible plague. Leprosy was a particularly big concern as well. Malaria came with the Monsoon season and till this day is quite deadly. Cholera was also rampant among the population due to the lack of proper sanitation and the poor quality of food available.
