The Ouachita Mountains are specific in that they run east to west, rather than the north to south course of the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. The sandstone and shale slopes harbor sorts of wooded area: hardwood on the northern slopes and pine and all right on the drier south dealing with slopes.
Ouachita Mountains are one of the fundamental mountain ranges in South vital US and form a part of our interior Highlands, a mountainous place among the Rocky and the Appalachian Mountains.
The Ouachita Mountains amplify about 225 miles (360 km) east to west from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Atoka, Oklahoma, and about 50–60 miles (80–ninety-five km) north to south from the Arkansas River valley to the northern margin of the Coastal plain.
