While the term "separation of church and state" is not explicitly used in the
constitution, the federal courts have long recognized that there is a wall of separation
between government and religion. The two constitutional foundations for this
separation of church and state are:
ls
O A the prohibition on religious tests to hold a public office or public trust under Article Six, and the
Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
O B) the separation of powers and the system of checks and balances found in Articles One, Two and Three.
© C) the Supremacy Clause of Article Six, and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment.
O D) the Theocracy Clause of Article Eight, and the Judeo-Christian Ethic Clause of the First Amendment.
