Further Explanation:

Stephen Crane’s literary genius shines through the Voice of the Mountain, where the reader is introduced to a character called Popocatepetl. He is an old man who has been tasked with sitting on a high rock, since times immemorial, and is incapable of any movement throughout his body. The King of Everything, or God, who is responsible for crafting all things in this world, has entrusted him with the job of sitting in the same way for a very long period of time. Due to his inability to move, he could not procure the basic necessities of life, such as food. He could only feast his eyes on the wide variety of food around him, but he could not eat them, which made him hungrier. He is saved by his friend, the eagle who brings him food and informs him of a brave creature on Earth with two arms, two legs and a head who could invent anything. He calls upon the little animal and begs them to help him. The little animal promises to make him a pair of wings, but it is unfulfilled as Popocatepetl is left agonizing, ignored and neglected.
