A substance is dissolved in water, and the temperature of the surroundings decreases. Is this process exothermic or endothermic? Explain your reasoning in 3-5 sentences.

Respuesta :

The process is endothermic because endothermic reaction results to absorption of heat energy.

Endothermic reaction is the opposite of exothermic reaction. While exothermic reaction involves the process of releasing heat energy to the surrounding, endothermic reaction absorbs heat energy from the surrounding. The absorption of heat energy results to the decrease of the temperature of the surroundings.

Therefore, the temperature of the surroundings decreased as the substance dissolved in water, the reaction mixture is definitely an endothermic process.

The diagram attached below shows an endothermic reaction pathway.
