Answer:

Students write poems all the time but it is a very hard task to mimic or surpass the creative writing of writers that have been doing it for years such as W.S. Merwin. One of the very hard aspects of a poem to master is using repetitive words or phrases to push across and idea or feeling into the reader. This was however, undoubtly mastered in the poem "Yesterday."

If you noticed, the writer of the poem "Yesterday" uses this repetitiveness to evoke feelings of despair and regret. He does this with words like, "my father" and "last". My describing his relationship with his father in such a grim way, you can understand that the writer feels regret towards the way he treats his father. He also understands that he should put more effort into their relationship which I believe a lot of people now a days can relate. Sometimes relationships can be weak due to the need for space. The writer acknowledges the fact that his friend thinks he is a bad son and states that he agrees. This shows me that the writer feels regret towards the fact that he doesn't visit his father as much as a should. Even though he understands this, we know that he still neglects this father knowingly. This is shown in lines 42 and 43. In these lines, the writer shows that he left even though he had "no where I hade to go and nothing I had to do."

Sorry but this is all I could come up with. I hope this was helpful.
