Given:
During a promotion a bag of sweets contain 20% extra free.
Sweets in the bag during the promotion = 24
To find:
The number of sweets are there normally.
Solution:
Let x be the number of sweets are there normally.
Then, number of sweets during the promotion is 20% more than x.
[tex]=x+\dfrac{20}{100}\times x[/tex]
[tex]=x+\dfrac{1}{5}x[/tex]
[tex]=\dfrac{5x+x}{5}[/tex]
[tex]=\dfrac{6x}{5}[/tex]
Sweets in the bag during the promotion = 24
[tex]\dfrac{6x}{5}=24[/tex]
Multiply both sides by 5.
[tex]6x=120[/tex]
Divide both sides by 6.
[tex]x=20[/tex]
Therefore, normally there are 20 number of sweets.
