According to the Declaration of Independence, why are governments created? Which idea does this reflect? Explain.

The Declaration of Independence says that government has one primary purpose; that of protecting the unalienable, God-given rights that all human beings posses. The Declaration states: That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men. ... Not all governments recognize this all-important principle.

According to the declaration of independence, Governments are created to safeguard and protect  the natural and God given rights of the people.

The declaration says that the people in government have a social contract with the people that they govern. So they have to protect the rights of the people.

The people on the other hand have to play their role in governance through acts of obedience to elected authority.
