The z- score is 2.
What is a z-score?
The z-score is a dimensionless variable that is used to express the signed, fractional number of standard deviations by which an event is above the mean value being measured. It is also known as the standard score, z-value, and normal score, among other terms. Z-scores are positive for values above the mean and negative for values below the mean.
The z-score can be determined by taking the raw score, or relevant data point (such as a test score, height, or age), minus the population mean, and dividing the result by the population standard deviation:
Where x is the raw score, is the population mean, and is the population standard deviation, we get the equation z = (x - μ)/σ
Given:
By using the z- score it can measure the no. of standard deviations σ that will be below and above the mean μ of the distribution. Since it is given that x=12 is 2 σ to the right of the μ.
Therefore, The z- score is 2.
