Parents of African American students filed a case against the state of California in 1979 because they believed the testing method used to identify students with learning disabilities was culturally unfair as the tests were normed and standardized using White children
A court case that was against the state of California was Larry P. v. Riles. It was associated with the children evaluations with a requirement of special education services. The main focus was the usage of IQ tests for the identification of the students to be admitted in an education class room with specialties.
But the thing affected African American children to a greater extent. This tests was conducted only for the evaluation of white students and the other students who participated in the tests were not considered. Thus the court sentenced that the tests was culturally unfair as the tests were normed and standardized using White children.
