The Dawes Act of 1887 gave Native Americans their own land. Since Native Americans were now on reservations, they previously had to share the whole reservation with each other.
With the Dawes Act, the reservations were split up and individual pieces of land were given to the Natives. This made it so they could farm and grow crop if they wanted to and they had more privacy and sense of home. This also made it so they blended in with the American lifestyle better.
