A series circuit is one in which current passes through without any branches as there is only one loop and the current passing through each component or element or the circuit is same across the circuit.
A simple series circuit is a battery with positive and negative terminal connected to a resistor / resistors in series. For example, ON/OFF switch allows direct control of the device in fan, tube light e.t.c.
