The inductance l of a 0.55-m-long air-filled solenoid containing 9000 loops is 0.106 Henry.

What is self inductance?

Self-inductance is the property of a coil to resist changes in current in itself.

When current changes through a coil, they induce an EMF. EMF is proportional to the rate of change of current through the coil.

Self inductance is given by L = NBA / i

where N is the no of loops, A is the area of loop, i is the current and B is the magnetic field of solenoid B = μ₀ni =  μ₀Ni/l

Then, new expression for  Self inductance L = μ₀N²A/l

Given a 0.55-m-long air-filled solenoid 2.7 cm= 0.027 in diameter containing 9000 loops.

Substituting the values, we get

L = = μ₀ (9000)² x π(2.7/2)² / 0.55

L = 0.106 Henry.

Thus, inductance l of a 0.55-m-long air-filled solenoid is 0.106 Henry.
