The possible outcomes when the gametes of a nondisjunction meiosis combines with a normal gamete, are;
- Trisomy- extra chromosome
- Monosomy- missing chromosome
- Normal
- Non-disjunction is the failure of chromosome/chromatid to separate to opposite poles during nuclear division.
- If non-disjunction occurs during anaphase II of meiosis II, it means that at least one pair of sister chromatids did not separate, therefore, two cells will have the normal haploid number of chromosomes. Additionally, one cell will have an extra chromosome (n + 1) (Trisomy) and one will be missing a chromosome (n - 1)(monosmy)
