The two houses that make up Congress are the following:

1.- the House of Representatives.

2.- the Senate.

  • The Senate is also known as the upper chamber.
  • The House of Representatives and the Senate are part of the Legislative branch.
  • The Legislative branch is the United States Congress.
  • The main purpose of the US Congress is to create laws and legislation that benefit the American people.
  • In the United States political system, Congress is part of the blueprint for the checks and balances system in the federal government.
  • The other two branches are the Executive branch that is the President of the United States and the Judicial branch that is the US Supreme Court.

We conclude that the United States is a Democracy that has a federal government with three branches under the checks and balances system. None of the three branches has more power than the other two.
