When the temperature in the air is 50°C, the velocity of a sound wave traveling through the air is approximately

A. 381 m/s
B. 30 m/s
C. 50 m/s
D. 361 m/s

Respuesta :

Velocity of a sound wave travelling through air at temperature T is given by,

V=√γRT/M

where, γ is adiabatic constant=1.4

R is universal constant = 8.314 J/mol K

M= molecular weight of gas in kg/mol= 0.2895

T= temperature= 50°C= 323.15 K

Velocity of sound = \sqrt{\frac{1.4(8.134)(323.15)}{0.2895}} [/tex]

= 360.45 m/s

Therefore, velocity of the sound wave travelling through the air at 50°C is approximately 361 m/s.
