The answers are zero and 5.
The average rate of change of the population of deer over the interval [2,4] is the ratio of the difference in the population as it changes from year 2 to 4 to the difference between the independent variable time:
     average rate of change = p(t2)-p(t1) / t2-t1
                                           = 850-850 / 4-2
                                           = 0
To determine the interval with -300 average rate of change, we use the equation for the average rate of change above and the values in the table. Substituting the values into the equation, we have-300 = 100-p(t1) / 7-x1According to the values in the table, we have -300 average rate of change over the interval [5,7]:
     average rate of change= 100-700 / 7-5
                                          = -600 / 2
                                          = -300
