According to de Jager and Nyenhuis (2021), the past few decades have seen an influx in the number of academic Journalistc papers written on populism. There have been studies looking into the charismatic leaders behind this ideology and the manner in which they have been able to strengthen and rally their following across the Americas, Europe and Australasia. Less effort has been put into examining this ideology from an African perspective.
