human experience plainly set out for all to see and in
that record, you can find for yourself and your
country both examples and warnings: fine things to
take as models, base things, rotten through and
through, to avoid."
Huy Vannak said when writing Bou Mengs
account of his life at S21 prison in Cambodia:

As a researcher, I have the chance to learn a great
deal about the lives of survivors and terror regimes
in the 20th century. My studies convince me that we
must learn history so that we will not repeat the
past."
Both of these quotes address the importance of
learning about terrible moments in history. Use
these two quotes as the basis for a speech that
you have been asked to give at a historical
society. The speech, entitled, "What we can
Learn from our travels," should persuade your
audience to visit dark tourism sites.
